T.A.S. is Tasmania’s largest Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) club (see What is HEMA?). T.A.S. instructors have been practicing HEMA since the 1980s, been teaching it since the 1990s and teaching it in Tasmania since 2004 (see History). The three branches of T.A.S., Hobart, Launceston and King Island teach a range of European martial arts developed and taught between 1300 and 1900. These can be done as exercise, sport or pure martial art with varying emphasis between different members.
Beginners’ classes are taught with safe practice weapons, teaching documented principles and techniques of historical martial arts systems. Classes suit most ages and (at least initially) don’t require a high fitness level. Select one of our three locations to find out about classes in your area.
