At Launceston T.A.S. we offer the student several ways to achieve their first rank (Scholar).
The new student begins as a Novice. The next rank is Scholar. To become a candidate for attaining this rank the student mush achieve a demonstrable level of skill and obtain weapons and equipment conforming to the minimum requirements in our Standards document (www.swordtas.com.au/standards).
The pathways to this rank offered at Launceston (T.A.S.) are:

Dagger:
- Low commitment regarding expense and safety gear required.
- An active, simple and practical method following Silver’s general principles for all weapons.
- Quick to learn

Smallsword:
- Low commitment regarding expense and safety gear required.
- Traditional foundation of swordsmanship for later backsword and spadroon

Backsword/Broadsword:
- Full scope of armed defence
- Fairly high cost cost of protective equipment and weapons
- Method that is foundational to Sword & Buckler, Sword & Targe, Sword & Dagger practice

Bastard-sword/Longsword:
- Iconic HEMA weapon

Core Classes
– Mondays, British backsword/broadsword paired with buckler, targe or dagger from several sources. Also, the single dagger fight from Silver
– Our main sources are George Silver (1599), Joseph Swetnam (1617) and Zachery Wylde (1711), Donald McBane (1728).
– Thusdays, Launceston Longsword Club TAS is studying the foundational movements and principles of the British bastardsword from Silver, Leddal, etc.

Monthly Fees
- Students/Unemployed $40/month
- Employed $60/month
- Casual attendance $15class due on the night.

Thursday: Potters House Hall, 2-6 Hobart Road, South Launceston
There is plenty of parking on Margaret Street, on both sides.
Potters House has parking available behind the hall..
